You know the old saying, “when life hands you graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows, make S’mores?” No? Not familiar with that one? OK, so we made that up, but it’s a good reminder that sometimes the best things in life are already right in front of you.
Which brings us to the subject of your porch. Sure, it may be winter still, but spring is well on its way, which means it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to spend your time in your favorite spot once things warm up.
In the meantime, you can actually still get some quality milage out of your porch — yes, even in winter — if you do it right. By “doing it right,” we mean, bringing in wintery snacks to warm your belly and soul.
If you have the perfect view for snacking on your porch, but aren’t sure which snacks to choose, we have a few below you’re sure to recognize and love. And if your porch already has screens on it, you’ll be protected from the heaviest winds and rain — and able to enjoy these tasty treats in comfort!
If you have a fireplace on your porch, light that puppy up and break out the marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars! It’s time for a sticky, gooey treat that’ll have the whole family beggin for . . . well, you get the idea!
Who says kabobs have to be made of meat and vegetables? Take some leftover marshmallows from your s’mores and stick them on a long, thin twig, along with other pieces of soft candy. Roast until all items are at your desired consistency, or if you can’t wait, just eat them raw!
Okay, technically, hot chocolate is a beverage, not a food. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention this classic winter porch drink. Whether you have yours with whipped cream, peppermint sticks, marshmallows or (ahem) something stronger, every sip will remind you why the porch is the perfect place to spend a beautiful winter afternoon!
